Syllabus

1st Stage Exam Syllabus is updated here.

1st Stage Computer Based Test (CBT) will consist of one objective-type multiple-choice paper containing 100 questions. For correct answer 1 marks will be provided & for wrong answer 0.33 mark will be deducted.

Time allowed for examination is 90 mins.

  • Mathematics: 30 Marks
  • General Science: 30 Marks
  • General Intelligence & Reasoning: 25 Marks
  • General Awareness: 15 Marks

Mathematics: –

  • 30 questions for total 30 marks in 1st Stage examination.
  • 1 mark will be given for each correct answer & 1/3 mark will be deducted for wrong answer.
Number System, BODMAS, Decimals, Fractions, LCM, HCF, Ratio and Proportions, Percentage, Mensuration, Time and Work, Time and Distance, Simple and Compound Interest, Profit and Loss, Algebra, Geometry and Trigonometry, Elementary Statistics, Square Root, Age Calculations, Calendar & Clock, Pipes & Cistern.

General Science: –

  • 30 questions for total 30 marks in 1st Stage examination.
  • 1 mark will be given for each correct answer & 1/3 mark will be deducted for wrong answer.
Physics, Chemistry and Life Sciences (up to 10th Standard CBSE syllabus).

General Intelligence & Reasoning: –

  • 25 questions for total 25 marks in 1st Stage examination.
  • 1 mark will be given for each correct answer & 1/3 mark will be deducted for wrong answer.
Analogies, Alphabetical and Number Series, Coding and Decoding, Mathematical operations, Relationships, Syllogism, Jumbling, Venn Diagram, Data Interpretation and Sufficiency, Conclusions and Decision Making, Similarities and Differences, Analytical reasoning, Classification, Directions, Statement – Arguments and Assumptions etc.

General Awareness: –

  • 15 questions for total 15 marks in 1st Stage examination.
  • 1 mark will be given for each correct answer & 1/3 mark will be deducted for wrong answer.
Knowledge of Current affairs, Indian geography, culture and history of India including freedom struggle, Indian Polity and constitution, Indian Economy, Environmental issues concerning India and the World, Sports, General Scientific and technological developments etc.
On the basis of Candidate performance & normalization of marks in Tier-I exam, qualified candidates would be shortlisted for Tier-II, 15 times the number of vacancies, subject to the condition that the candidate should have scored minimum cut-off in Tier-1, which is provided below-

  • General/EWS: 40%
  • OBC/SC: 30%
  • ST: 25%
  • All Ex-servicemen would be treated in their own category viz., UR/OBC/SC/ST/EWS.

2nd Stage Computer Based Test (CBT) will consist of one objective-type multiple-choice paper containing 150 questions. For correct answer 1 marks will be provided & for wrong answer 0.33 mark will be deducted.

Time allowed for examination is 120 mins.

  • Technical Abilities: 100 Marks
  • General Awareness: 15 Marks
  • Physics & Chemistry: 15 Marks
  • Basics of Computers and Applications: 10 Marks
  • Basics of Environment and Pollution Control: 10 Marks

Technical Abilities: –

  • 100 questions for total 100 marks in 1st Stage examination.
  • 1 mark will be given for each correct answer & 1/3 mark will be deducted for wrong answer.
The educational qualifications mentioned against each post shown in Annexure-A, have been grouped into different exam groups as below. Questions on the Technical abilities will be framed in the syllabus defined for various Exam Groups given at Annexure-VII-A, B, C, D & E.

General Awareness: –

  • 15 questions for total 15 marks in 1st Stage examination.
  • 1 mark will be given for each correct answer & 1/3 mark will be deducted for wrong answer.

Basics of Computers & Applications: –

  • 10 questions for total 10 marks in 1st Stage examination.
  • 1 mark will be given for each correct answer & 1/3 mark will be deducted for wrong answer.
Architecture of Computers; input and Output devices; Storage devices, Networking, Operating System like Windows, Unix, Linux; MS Office; Various data representation; Internet and Email; Websites & Web Browsers; Computer Virus.

Basics of Environment and Pollution Control: –

  • 10 questions for total 10 marks in 1st Stage examination.
  • 1 mark will be given for each correct answer & 1/3 mark will be deducted for wrong answer.
Basics of Environment; Adverse effect of environmental pollution and control strategies; Air, water and Noise pollution, their effect and control; Waste Management, Global warming; Acid rain; Ozone depletion.
On the basis of Candidate performance & normalization of marks in Tier-II exam, qualified candidates would be shortlisted for Document Verification equal to the number of vacancies, subject to the condition that the candidate should have scored minimum cut-off in Tier-II, which is provided below-

  • General/EWS: 40%
  • OBC/SC: 30%
  • ST: 25%
  • All Ex-servicemen would be treated in their own category viz., UR/OBC/SC/ST/EWS.
DV & Medical: – Shortlisting of candidates for DV and Medical Examination shall be done RRB-wise at the rate of 1:1 of the vacancies for that RRB. It will be based on the merit of 2nd Stage CBT.
